The Kazickas Family Foundation and its program “Youth Can” are glad to have been able to use its network of friends and partners to help one special young man in need.
Few weeks ago Caritas Alternative Education Center for Youth in Vilnius contacted the foundation with an unusual inquiry. It’s an organization that helps youth formerly from orphanages to become self-sufficient in life, provides a shelter, guidance and emotional support. The director of the center Donatas Nagumanovas asked the foundation whether it could help find shoes for a newly accepted young man, who wears US shoe size 17. He had only one pair of worn out shoes for all seasons at the time.
“Youth Can” program manager Arminas Vareika asked the Lithuanian basketball community for help: “There’s a saying “to stand on one’s own feet”. One young man who just turned eighteen and left the orphanage is now trying to build his life and stand firmly on his own feet. What makes it harder - he only has one pair of shoes!”. Soon after, many generous people sent the messages offering to donate shoes.
The teen was excited to receive five new pairs of shoes which he is now able to wear to work, as well as other occasions. The Kazickas Family Foundation, its program “Youth Can” and the whole basketball community of Lithuania made sure he knows that everyone believes in him and trusts that the time will come when he will stand firmly on his feet and will be able to help the others as well.
The Kazickas Family Foundation and “Youth Can” are grateful to their partners and friends who helped to make this happen: Basketball Club “Rytas Vilnius”, Basketball Club “Zalgiris”, basketball players Saulius Kuzminskas and Mindaugas Kuzminskas, Akvile Dagilyte, Loreta Stakauskaite.
