In 1998, Dr.Joseph P.Kazickas received an honorary doctorate from Kaunas University of Technology (KTU). In the same year, the first agreement between the University and Dr. J. P. Kazickas, himself, later the Kazickas Family Foundation (KFF) was signed in order to award stipends for students and grants for the faculty. The idea to support the University evolved from the communication between Dr. Joseph Kazickas and KTU professor Vytautas Ostasevicius.
For the past 20 years, KFF has provided awards to over a hundred KTU students for their academic achievements and social involvement and to 36 KTU professors for their accomplishments. Since 2005, the foundation grants additional annual funds for the four regional computer science contests, their final forum (in 2004 named after Dr. J. P. Kazickas) and its awards. This is a separate grant program geared towards secondary school students to inspire the younger generation's interest in the information technologies, computer programming and sciences.
In 2012, the KFF added Jurate Kazickas's stipends for the Kaunas University of Technology female students for their academic achievements, involvement in the social and cultural life and maintenance of the Lithuanian heritage.
Currently KFF offers following scholarships to KTU students and teachers:
- Eight 750 € scholarships to high-performing, socially responsible (philanthropic activities, participating in non-profit organizations or activities) students working towards their Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
- Two 700 € scholarships to high-performing and gifted students, who have practical skills in the area of computer communications, who are fluent in foreign languages and study at the University’s Faculty of Informatics;
- Two 3000 € grants to the University teachers under the age of 45, who are doing research in the areas of advanced technologies or preparing textbooks or monographs;
- 7800 € support for the organization of the regional programming and information technology competitions for schoolchildren, annual Forum, seminar for computer science teachers, and the awards;
In partnership with Kaunas University of Technology, the Kazickas Family Foundation encourages leaders and talented individuals for the sake of sustainable development and innovative growth of Lithuania.
