Presidential Valdas Adamkus Library-Museum opened its doors in April of 2016 according to the American tradition when a former President gives his archives, historic documents and personal things to a museum. Its founders are the former President Valdas Adamkus, Kaunas Municipality and Vytautas Magnus University.
Presidential Library's mission - to become innovative cultural and educational source, to improve and teach providing knowledge and pleasure. Museum-library has to tell people's experience and contrbute to building stronger communities. Presidential Library is a valuable source for scientists, students, doing research for their masters and doctoral degrees, Lithuania's youth living abroad to expand their knowledge about Lithuania's history including the diaspora.
V. Adamkus Presidential library plans to open an exposition dedicated not just to V. Adamkus' life, but also to the entire Lithuanian diaspora, history of Lithuania's road to the West and ideas about liberal democracies. Exposition will include the most outstanding Lithuanians from all over the world.
During the October 2014 meeting Jurate, Joseph and John Kazickas were assured by Arunas Antanaitis, Library director, and dr. R. Kondratas, Library's Board of Directors, that in celebration of the life long friendship of the President V. Adamkus with dr. J. P. Kazickas, there will be dr. Joseph P. Kazickas room in the Museum. Dr. J. Kazickas, who was committed to Lithuania and its people, was one of the first people to find out about an idea to build such library and became a big supporter. He encouraged to keep going to achieve this goal - to open the first Presidential library in Europe. Prof. Aleksandravičius mentioned that with a huge respect library accepts the responsibility to preserve, research and take good care of Dr. J. Kazickas' archives. Library already received archives of more than seventy lithuanian emigrants and organizations whose contributions to Lithuania will be included in the exposition. Researchers, students, scientists will have access to the archives of Vytautas Kamantas, Aleksandras Štromas, Vytautas Kavolis, Liūtas Mockūnas, Raimundas Mieželis, Santaros Šviesa and many more.
