Last weekend Alexandra Kazickas Lithuanian School (Long Island, NY) finished its 10th school year already. School, supported by Kazickas Family Foundation, had 16 graduates since 2006. Rasa Mitruleviciene from Eastern Long Island Lithuanian Community congratulated this year's graduate Smilte and all school's students.
School had 33 students this year. They all are very proud of their accomplishments at various contests, amount of Lithuanian books read and A1-A2-B1 level test results.
Year 2015-2016 at A. Kazickas Lithuanian School was declared 'Year of a Lithuanian Book.' Students worked hard to read many many books. Youngest students' teacher Reda prepared a beautiful Book Reading Tree, where every student would glue on a leaf after finishing a book. Students that read the most books received the book worm's certificates.
This year students participated at the contest "Fairy Tale Telling" organized by Lithuanian Educational Council of the USA. Two school's students received prizes for the nicest paintings and two - for the most interesting stories.
First through fourth grade students were excited to participate at the International Cursive Writing "For You Lithuania" organized by Kapciamiestis Emilija Pliateryte School.
Eldest students got a chance to participate at the historical event by taking A1-A2-B1 Lithuanian language proficiency test. Six students received certificates issued by the Ministry of Education and Science of Lithuania and Vilnius University confirming students' language proficiency. Such test is a big step in a long process trying to accomplish that Lithuanian language taught at the Lithuanian heritage schools in the US would be valued at the same level as other heritage languages worldwide.
