On Monday, December 12th, from 1pm to 4pm, in collaboration with KFF, KFF grantee - Valdas Adamkus Presidential Library (Kaunas, Lithuania) organized a conference "Trafficking in Human Beings (THB) in Lithuania: forms old and new".
According to the International Labor Organization, 21 million people across the globe are the victims of forced labor, including forced sham marriages, sexual exploitation and child labor. With a goal to draw more attention on this issue in Lithuania, Valdas Adamkus Presidential Library organized a conference "Trafficking in Human Beings (THB) in Lithuania: forms old and new."
Topics discussed included previously prevalent and currently developing human rights violation practices, such as sham marriages, youth trafficked for crime and other forms of modern slavery.
Dr. Karolis Zibas, founder of the NGO "Diversity Development Group" and human rights activist introduced his book "Exploitative sham marriages and situation of THB in Lithuania."
Dr. Aurelijus Gutauskas, Justice of Lithuanian Supreme Court, Darius Valkavicius, Chief prosecutor of Kaunas region and Kristina Misiniene, head of Caritas program "Help for victims of THB violence" in Lithuania, all presented their latest findings and experience about the Trafficking in Human Beings.
