Thanks to prof. Daina Litvinskaite of University of Illinois, nine representatives of the U.S. Lithuanian language schools participated in a networking conference for program administrators, teachers, parents, and researchers involved in community-based language programs and bilingual schools.
Participation of the Lithuanian representatives was in part sponsored by KFF (AKGP), in an effort to have syllabus for the Lithuanian language schools created with proficiency exams resulting in Lithuanian language credits on the students high school diplomas.
For the Lithuanian delegation, main focus of the conference was on Lithuanian language testing and language proficiency credits. Contacts were made and a cooperation started with language specialists from the American Councils and ACTFL.
During the discussions, Lithuanians were able to talk about Lithuanian schools outside Lithuania during the Soviet occupation, Lithuanian Educational Council of the U.S., Lithuanian as a language of Freedom, the situation in Ukraine and tensions between President Putin and the Democratic World.
