On April 8th, at the NBPA headquarters in New York, the Kazickas Family Foundation hosted an awareness event to introduce "Basketball Power" program to nearby Lithuanian schools' children and their families.
Event's initiator, former NBA player and international Sports Diplomacy Envoy Marty Conlon, together with NBA representatives conducted basketball clinics for children and adults. Many Kazickas family members participated at the event and together with "Basketball Power" manager in Lithuania Arminas Vareika introduced the program to the diaspora, shared true stories how basketball, hand in hand with life skills program, positively affect even the most vulnerable children's lives. “Basketball Power” program coordinator Aiste Furajevaite, who was responsible for organizing this event, worked with NBA players Jonas Valanciunas (Toronto "Raptors") and Mindaugas Kuzminskas (New York "Knicks"). The players met with the guests, signed autographs, handed out medals to children and raffle prizes to the winners. Also, V. Kudirka Lithuanian School's team together with Peter Kazickas' team engaged children in robotics workshop. Consul General of Lithuania in New York Julius Pranevicius, LAC president Sigita Simkuviene Rosen, Hoops4hope program's in Zimbabwe (inspired to create "Basketball Power") founder Mark Crandall, secretary general of the Lithuanian Basketball Federation Mindaugas Spokas, assistant coach for the men’s national team of Lithuania Ramunas Siskauskas participated at the event as well.
