On Tuesday, Lithuanian Basketball Federation hosted nine young basketball lovers from three villages of Lithuania, participants of the Kazickas Family Foundation sponsored program “Basketball Power” and their coaches.
Secretary General of the Federation Mindaugas Spokas gave them and their four coaches, Arminas Vareika, Arijus Kanovalovas, Remigijus Kuodis and Arturas Serzantas, a tour of the offices of the Federation and told them all about its work. The youth representatives from Karvys (Vilnius reg.), Pumpenai (Pasvalys reg.) and Miroslavas (Alytus reg.) were given an opportunity to sit in the chair of Arvydas Sabonis, the President of the Federation, and to tell all about their lives in the villages, to show pictures of their surroundings where they spend their free time and outdoor basketball courts they play on. They asked for the Federation’s assistance to renovate old and broken courts.
“The most important thing is that they had an opportunity to leave their villages, to see that they can create something and protect it themselves. When collaborating with the Federation, we can prove to them that everything is possible, that thanks to basketball they can accomplish their goals, ”- said Arminas Vareika, Program’s manager.
“All these courts need renovation, some more some less. We will definitely help the youth. They need to do some home work while local municipalities should step up also,”- M. Spokas said.
