Best Young IT Specialists of Lithuania Will Meet at Dr. J. P. Kazickas Computer Forum at KTU
03/11/2019

On March 16, 2019 Kaunas University of Technology Faculty of Informatics will host Dr. J. P. Kazickas Computer Science Forum for school students where the most talented boys and girls will compete in programming, IT applications, multi media and program development competitions.

Since 1998 Kaunas University of Technology together with the Kazickas Family Foundation host contests in two stages. First, younger students (grade 5-8) compete in IT application contest and older ones in programming contest at the regional events in Dzukija, Aukstaitija, Suvalkija, Zemaitija and Kaunas region. The most successful students are awarded with the special prizes provided by the event's sponsors and with the Kazickas Family Foundation scholarships. This year ESET, a pioneer of antivirus protection, creating award-winning threat detection software provided prizes for the winners of Aukstaitija, Zemaitija, Suvalkija and Dzukija regions. Software development company "Devbridge Group" and "Energy Advise", developing commercial software packages for electricity and hydraulics modelling and analyses, awarded the Kaunas region winners.

At the Forum students will participate not just in IT applications and programming contests, but also in multimedia and program development competitions. According to the chairman of the Forum Mindaugas Vasiljevas, programs developed by students each year get more and more professional. "It's exciting to see each year new programs being developed solving issues relevant not just to the programming community, but to the general public as wel," shared M. Vasiljevas. Students' work is awarded by "DATA DOG" that builds bespoke, AI-based applications that revolutionize resource planning, supply chain, sales and customer service operations.

All students and teachers not competing in the final Forum are invited to participate at the microcontrol and robot programming workshops. They will also have an opportunity to compete in the robot races and test VR products developed by the University students.
