Two emergency medicine experts, doctors from Cincinnati Hospital, who initiated Lithuanian emergency medicine doctors’ international residency cycle in the US (supported by the KFF), dr. Herbert Loyd and dr. Kurt Knochel, visited hospitals in Lithuania.
During their visit they shared their excitement about two Lithuanian residents, Simona and Vytautas, who completed 6 week long cycle in Cincinnati, their accomplishments and met with other young doctors who will be packing their luggage shortly for their trip to the best US hospitals to gain American emergency medicine knowledge and experience. Emergency medicine perspectives in Lithuania were discussed with the Minister of Health of Lithuania dr. Aurelijus Veryga, Head of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences dr. R. Zaliunas, Vice-Rector K. Petrikonis, Director General of the Kaunas Clinic dr. R. Jurkevicius and others. During a short but busy week guests visited not just Emergency Medicine Clinic / Kaunas Clinic, but also Emergency Rooms in Kedainiai, Siauliai, Kaunas and Vilnius. This is only the beginning of the collaboration between the emergency medicine doctors in Lithuania and the US. Emergency Medicine Department at Kaunas Clinic is grateful to the Kazickas Family Foundation, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Department of Disaster Medicine at LUHS, Kaunas Clinic, Ministry of Health of Lithuania and many others for their help and support. A lot more significant work awaits in the future so that Lithuanian doctors could provide its patients’ with the best available health care.
