Discussion - "Lithuania - a supplier of modern slaves"
06/21/2016

On June 16th, Jurate Kazickas participated at the discussion on Human Trafficking/Modern Slavery with Ambassador Zygimantas Pavilionis, Member of LT Parliament Irena Degutiene, Judge Aurelijus Gutauskas, Father Algirdas Toliatas, Policeman from UK Aivaras Krochalev, Vytautas Landsbergis and others at the CLub Res Publica in Vilnius.

Ambassador Zygimantas Pavilionis shared his point of view:

"New inspiring place for CLub Res Publica discussions – Art Factory “Loftas”, opened by Zivile Diawara, who has a dream of turning Vilnius New Town into the most creative gathering place for the Lithuanians, New York Soho. New York and it’s Soho are well known to the president of Kazickas Family Foundation Jurate Kazickas, who participated in the discussion as well. The discussion was about such an important issue, but so overlookek and ignored in Lithuania – modern slavery and Lithuania as one of the largest slave suppliers. We are in the top ten countries, who supply the largest number of slaves to the United Kingdom. British police officer Aivaras Krochalev, visiting from Peterborough, shocked us all with his own experience – brought there as a slave, he managed to get out of it and today he fights Lithuanian and British mafias that continue to fill their pockets with cash taking advantage of Lithuanian emigrants' dreams. Hope to see Aivaras’ interview in 15 minutes and elsewhere. Judge Aurelijus Gutauskas and Deputy Speaker of Seimas Irena Degutiene, police chaplain Algirdas Toliatas and others were asking for justice.

We are committed to end slavery in the UK till 2025…. Is it real knowing what situation we are in today? There are laws, separate institutions, individuals, non-government organizations, however, there are no government policies, we are not united. It was agreed to turn this subject into a more serious discussion at the Parlament with the highest British officials who want to help us.

According to President V. Landsbergis, in earlier days, pirates who were selling slaves used to be hung, today it seems like human race is even less humane. Person became an item for sale. Human trafficking is the second most profitable business in the world run by criminals, following only the gun trade. We ought to stop this and it’s time for our country to wake up.."
