Saturday, March 17th, Kaunas University of Technology Faculty of Informatics (KTU IF) hosted close to 200 high school students participating in the 20th Dr. Juozas Petras Kazickas Computer Science Forum for school children.
Sixty seven participants were awarded prizes established by the Kazickas Family Foundation or received generous awards from other benefactors of the event.
This year 114 schoolchildren competed in the programming contest, 27 participants competed in IT application group, and record breaking number, 14 teams of students, were challenged in multimedia and program development competition.

Prizes were awarded not only to the Forum participants, but also to the winners of regional competitions in Suvalkija, Aukštaitija, Žemaitija and Dzūkija.
Since 2015 software development company "DevBridge Group" based in the USA had been presenting Kaunas programming competition winners with the awards. IT application contest winners this year were awarded by the global digital media advertising technology company "Adform".
The winner of the programming contest, Martynas Sinkievič (11th grade) from Vilnius Licėjus, received prizes from two companies – a tablet iPad 9.7. was provided by an IT company “NFQ Technologies” and PS4 game console was provided by game platform development company “Helis”. The winner also received an additional prize established by “DevBridge Group” – an invitation to the Sourcery Academy.
Mindaugas Venckus, director of finances at the “NFQ Technologies” congratulated the winner and encouraged him to continue competing in the next, global, level programming competitions worldwide. “Helis” CEO Vytis Uogintas said that while gaming economy is currently uniting the best programmers of the world, they also love to relax, quite often playing electronic sports games.
Company working on digital graphics technologies and products development, “Indeform”, awarded three winners of the programming contest as well, while five 3rd place winners were awarded with prizes provided by the IT company “Energy Advice”. Additional prizes were established by IT companies “Xplicity” and “BlueBridge”.
Prizes for the 1st through 10th place winners of the IT application competition were provided by “Adform”. As usual, DATA DOG awarded the winners of the multimedia and program development competition winners.
Seminar for the teachers
The Forum also included a 2.5 hour long seminar for the teachers. Prof. dr. Valentina Dagienė (Vilnius University) and guest from Indonesia Inggriani Liem (Bandung Institute of Technology) shared their experiences how to recognize and teach gifted children.
Forum organizers invited children to sponsoring companies’ presentations: software architect Audrius Bugas from “NFQ Technologies” introduced the largest search engine for the vacation property search, a product developed by Audrius himself. Graphic artist from “Indeform” Evaldas Skirgaila shared how virtual reality is created. Senior software engineer Rūtenis Turčinas from “DevBridge Group” and Mindaugas Vasiljevas, a lecturer at KTU IF, shared a recipe to become a successful programmer. Students were also invited to fly above the KTU Student town, ski with a penguin, etc.
