Kaunas University of Technology Faculty of Informatics (KTU IF) hosted more than 200 high school students participating in the Dr. Joseph P. Kazickas Computer Science Forum for school children.
The Dr. J. P. Kazickas Computer Science Forum has a long tradition and attracts a large number of participants every year. During the competitions, students test their IT knowledge, which they will need to take part in the Olympiads or in the final national exams. As well, high school students get acquainted with the KTU Faculty of Informatics and its professors.
This year, the students gathered at the KTU campus for a 3-hour-long programming challenge. While the students were solving the tasks, their teachers participated in various seminars led by KTU professors. After the assignments, while waiting for the results, the students took part in the KTU VR Lab activities, quizzes, and other interactive activities.
Awards for the winners
The winners were congratulated and awarded by the Director of the Kazickas Family Foundation Agnė Vertelkaitė, the Vice-Rector of KTU Jonas Čeponis, the Dean of the Faculty of Informatics of KTU Rita Butkiene, the Associate Dean of the Faculty of Informatics of KTU Kęstutis Jankauskas, the chairman of the judging committee associate professor Giedrius Ziberkas.
Around 50 participants were awarded prizes established by the Kazickas Family Foundation or received generous awards from other benefactors of the event.
The winner of the Forum - Aldas Lenkšas (Vilniaus licėjus).
The second place winners were Joris Pevcevičius (Kauno technologijos universiteto gimnazija), Augustinas Jučas (Klaipėdos licėjus) and Martynas Šmaižys (Kauno technologijos universiteto gimnazija).
The third place winners were 5 students: Gustas Mickus (Marijampolės Rygiškių Jono gimnazija), Tautvydas Kuklys (Klaipėdos „Ąžuolyno“ gimnazija), Jokūbas Jasiūnas (Vilniaus licėjus), Kipras Deksnys (Vilniaus licėjus) and Tomas Marcinkevičius (Kauno technologijos universiteto gimnazija).
The winners of the Forum were awarded joint prizes from the Kazickas Family Foundation, TransUnion Baltics, FESTO, Centric IT Solutions Lithuania and Devbridge LT. The first-place winner received a cash prize of EUR 600, the second-place winners received EUR 430 each, and the third-place winners received EUR 240.
The best performing girl students in the regional and final competitions were awarded special prizes:
The first-place winner Evita Šriupšaitė (Kaišiadorių Algirdo Brazausko gimnazija) was awarded the prize of EUR 200 by the Kazickas Family Foundation.
The second-place winner Gabrielė Rinkevičiūtė (Klaipėda "Ąžuolyno" gimnazija) won a cash prize of 150 EUR from the KTU Faculty of Informatics.
The third-place winner Aistė Savickaitė (Kauno technologijos universiteto gimnazija) won a prize of 120 EUR.
