MO Museum together with the Kazickas Family Foundation are starting a new initiative for socially vulnerable youth. Boys and girls are welcome to participate in free MO educational programs or visit the museum on their own.
This program is offered to teens who do not always have a chance to visit places of culture and learn more about modern art, the exhibits, and participate in the topics discussed. Such youth are mostly from day centers, foster homes, are residents of small towns and villages, especially ones far from Vilnius.
MO museum and the Kazickas Family Foundation are inviting the organizations representing such youth to register for the program and participate in interdisciplinary MO educational sessions or visit the museum on their own.
"We have important informal educational goals for the MO Museum program, such as emotional intellect classes developed together with the psychologists or visual thinking activities focusing on important 21 century skills. Discussions moderated by the educators during the exhibits help children to open up and express their opinion. By using artwork displayed and themes analyzed, questions get raised, dialogue starts and, most importantly, reflection and critical thinking follow. That is crucial in today’s world," shares Milda Ivanauskaite, MO Museum director.
“Foundation’s main focus has always been on education and social welfare. For six years our educational program “Youth Can” is promoting an active lifestyle, teaching youth necessary life skills and self-awareness in the country’s remote regions. The program revealed that we need to help youth to develop self-confidence, responsibility, creativity as well as expand their curiosity, especially in the arts. We believe that the MO education program will have a significant positive impact on participating youth and the community they come from,” shares Jurate Kazickas, president of the Kazickas Family Foundation.
Various MO Museum educational programs are available to the youth. Self-searching activities developing emotional intellect and encouraging discussions on important topics are offered, as well as visual thinking strategy sessions and integrated classes expanding beyond the formal education context. This spring the museum also introduces its latest program “Stories from the Suitcase” that develops storytelling skills.
Currently participation in the educational programs is available only virtually. In-person sessions at the museum will be available once allowed, depending on the public health situation in Lithuania.
MO Museum visitors are also invited to contribute to the initiative. They can do so by purchasing and donating MO Museum social tickets. Individuals who wish to visit the museum but cannot afford to do so will be able to access it for free. The Kazickas Family Foundation will provide some tickets to young people, the rest will be donated by the museum visitors and distributed to the teens and other underprivileged groups who otherwise cannot afford the admission.
By inviting visitors to contribute to the initiative, MO Museum and the Kazickas Family Foundation seek for the common goal to promote social responsibility and community care.
The goal of MO Museum and the Kazickas Family Foundation initiative is to provide socially vulnerable youth groups with an opportunity to attend MO museum educational programs so they can discover modern art, explore new knowledge paths, develop communication, collaboration skills, expand their creativity, critical thinking, emotional intellect and much more. It will help them when choosing their future career and life paths.
