WHAT A DAY! Once again, KFF was humbled and honored to be part of yet another partnership, now with Physically Challenged Wheelchair Basketball team “Draugyste"( EN:"Friendship”) and somewhere seen and famous group of men, Basketball Community/Club “Kažkur Matyti" (EN: "Somewhere Seen”), which takes on social responsibility challenges without any hesitation, with full force, open minds and hearts.
You should see what a beautiful heart each and everyone of them has!
KFF met with “Draugyste” back in June of 2015 during the opening ceremony of KFF-NBA Seskine outdoors basketball court where they played the opening game.
Yesterday, dressed in "Draugyste" – "Basketball Power" logo jerseys, club’s members played a game as an awareness campaign against BC club “Kazkur Matyti”. The game was held in Siemens arena, during the half time of the game between "Lietuvos Rytas" and "Zenit" (St. Petersburg, Russia) with 5,000 spectators cheering on.
It was humbling to watch emotions and respect of the “Kazkur Matyti” for the men with disabilities, while mingling with them and sharing their experience at a beautiful dinner, - GEALAN BALTIC treat.
Thank you to the "Lietuvos Rytas" and Siemens Arena for your commitment to social responsibility.
Please, read the accounts of “Kažkur Matyti” group as they share it on their Facebook page:
"Wednesday, in Siemens Arena (Vilnius), not so good, good and very good things happened. Well, good thing that "Lietuvos Rytas" team won against St. Petersbourg’s "Zenit". Not such a good thing was that this victory was not sufficient for "Lietuvos Rytas" to get into the 7DaysEuroCup. Very good thing was a friendly game between Physically Challenged wheel chair basketball team “Draugyste” and somewhat famous and somewhere seen men basketball community/club “Kažkur Matyti” before the game and during the half time break.
Club “Draugyste” won 99 – 11 against “Kazkur Matyti” although those were very ambitious men. It is really amazing, that men who sat in wheel chairs for the first time in their life, were able to score and even score a three pointer.
Mazvydas Butkevicius, one of the leaders of “Draugyste” club commented that the opponents looked pretty good knowing that they sat in wheel chairs for the first time. He continued, that to be able to achieve higher levels, one has to train for at least two years.
Paulius Ambrazevicius had a different opinion on the comment “the opponents looked pretty good”. To be an equal player, “Kazkur Matyti” would have to put five of theirs in the offense, five in the defense and two in the middle, - joked the humorist.
Paulius was right. “Draugyste's” pressure was so great in five minutes of the third quarter that “Kazkur Matyti” were not able cross the middle line once and missed 25 points.
To be in the wheelchair basketball, one needs biceps, brain, skills and gloves. These were conclusions made by those who played for “Kazkur Matyti”.
