Alexandra Kazickas Lithuanian School's students, teachers and parents together with the Eastern Long Island Lithuanian Community gathered to wish each other happy holidays. School's students shared a Lithuanian Winter story "Apšerkšniję mūsų žiemos" and reminded everyone to keep Belief, Love, Peace and Hope in our hearts not just on Christmas, but throughout the entire year.
The children and community members were pleased to see not just the most important guest of the evening, Santa Claus, but also New York Lithuanian Community Chair Rasa Sprindys, as well as Rochester Lithuanian Community Chair Skirmante Philippone and family. They wished everyone Merry Christmas and all the best in New Year.
During the event everyone got a chance to try out their luck during the annual fundraiser - the lottery. Children were excited to win different prizes, from toys to various gift cards, while adults tried to win certificates donated by the local businesses, such as massage parlors, spas, restaurants, various stores and others. All the funds raised during the event will be split equally between the school and the community. Every year school's children, teachers and families decide the best way to use the funds collected, what field trip or afterschool activity would supplement the best their Lithuanian education in the classroom.
Twenty four children ages 4 to 16 and one adult student attend A. Kazickas Lithuanian school this year. Currently there are 44 Lithuanian Heritage Schools in the US teaching children Lithuanian language, culture, history, music and more.
