Every year on July 6th, Lithuania celebrates a State Day, also known as the Day of Coronation of King Mindaugas (1253). In 2009 a beautiful initiative started inviting all the Lithuanians across the globe to join in singing the Lithuanian National Anthem together. Once again, today at 9 pm Lithuanian time, it will be heard from Lithuania, across Europe, the Americas, reaching Asia, Australia, and Africa.
President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda addressed the Lithuanians across the globe:
Dear Fellow People of Lithuania,
Happy State Day to everyone!
July 6 takes us back to the roots of our country that very decisive moment where the stream of our shared history began.
We entered the West with King Mindaugas for the first time and we keep moving along the chosen path. Raised and nurtured in the family of European nations we remain open to those who cherish freedom and obey the law.
History teaches us to make the right choices: to foster unity and mutual understanding, reach out to each other rather than repel, and work together for what seems bold and hard to achieve.
We just have to be daring enough. Therefore, I encourage you today: let us be proud of what has been achieved and let us boldly change the things we do not like.
We are all architects of Lithuania’s history. That means there is nothing impossible for us.
I wish you a happy celebration!
