During her trip to Lithuania, on April 12th, President of the Kazickas Family Foundation Jurate Kazickas visited the Ministry of Health of Lithuania. Because health minister was away on a business trip, viceminister for personal health, Lina Jaruseviciene, welcomed the guest.
Kaunas Clinics director for medical care Dr. Kestutis Stasaitis, Lithuanian Emergency Medicine Association director prof. Dinas Vaitkaitis and the Kazickas Family Foundation New York Office director Neila Baumiliene also joined the meeting.
The purpose of this meeting was to introduce foundation’s work in the medical field of Lithuania. The Kazickas family not only gives financial support to big initiatives, smaller medical projects and equipment, but also shares medical experience and contacts of professionals in the US who continue to work together with the Lithuanian doctors.
Among many initiatives in the medical field, the Kazickas Family Foundation supports Lithuanian Emergency medicine residents’ training in Cincinnati, USA (three year project), Mothers’ Union initiative – building of the Family Home (Šeimos namučiai) by the the Santara Clinic, Santara Clinic and Kaunas Clinic Pediatric Oncologists’ professional skill development in Washington, DC, continuos support for Kaunas Clinics Pediatrics Center, Kaunas Nursing Home support, provided Syringe Pumps for paliative care in Lithuania and long time support for the National Alopecia Association. Also to mention - a memorable initiative during the Basketball Power (foundation’s social responsibility program) event in June 2017 by the Emergency Medicine doctors to train 300 children and youth how to perform CPR.
During the meeting opportunities to work together were discussed. Jurate Kazickas asked the Ministry of Health to take over financing of certain initiatives, such as syringe pumps for palliative care. Jurate aso raised a question of spiritual support in medical field and shared her friend’s experience who is a chaplain at the Philadelphia Pediatric Oncology Clinic and specializes in end of life palliative care. Dr. Stasaitis suggested to the Foundation to be the “ice-breaker” in this initiative in Lithuania.
At the end of the meeting vice minister Jaruseviciene presented Jurate Kazickas with Health Minister Aurelijus Veryga’s letter of gratitude thanking the Kazickas Family Foundation for its support of Lithuania’s medical needs.
The Kazickas Family Foundation thanks dr. K. Stasaitis and prof. D. Vaitkaitis for coordinating this meeting and for the proposals for future collaboration between the Ministry of Health and the Kazickas Family Foundation.
