May is a busy month at the Lithuanian Schools in the US - Mothers' Day, end of school year celebrations, graduations, but in the midst of it all two Lithuanian schools, "V. Kudirka" and "Lietuvele," managed to organize KFF Matching Grant events and raise some extra funds to support schools' work.
Vincas Kudirka Lithuanian School invited all on May 5th to a special concert and a day of poetry with Violeta Palcinskaite. Rainy day started with students' poetry verses and unique presents for their beautiful Moms, followed by the Indre Puppet Theater play based on V. Palcinskaite children book "Poems from Home" together with a song writer and performer bard Vygantas Kazlauskas.
Later on V. Palcinskaite introduced her memoir book to the adults, and continued with a concert based on her poetry. The end of a concert was dedicated to school's Mothers and Grandmothers.
No one was in a rush to go home - guests were enjoying delicious treats and each other's company. During the event $1,394 were collected and Kazickas Family Foundation will match $1,000 according to its Matching Grant program. V. Kudirka Lithuanian School's students, teachers and parents are grateful to the Kazickas Family Foundation for its continuous support!
At the meantime, on May 4th, Lithuanian School "Lietuvele" invited school's families and guests to the "May Picnic". Students gathered not for regular classes that day, but to celebrate their Moms and school's graduates.
School's director and teachers were excited to share their pride in graduates' and their families' dedication and time spent at school, their commitment to learning. Through the years teachers watched them grow and become wonderful individuals they are now.
During the event, some students played piano and accordion, others read poetry and presented their Moms with some personal art pieces. Musician Stasys Telsinskas invited all to show off their dancing and singing skills. Children invited their parents to participate in various activities, guests had a chance to try their luck in the auction with many Lithuanian prizes offered and to enjoy variety of Lithuanian traditional meals. During the event $1,160 were collected and Kazickas Family Foundation will match $1,000 according to its Matching Grant program.
