On May 27th Language and Culture Institute "Lingua Lituanica" in Panevezys hosted the Kazickas Family Foundation's Petras Butenas Literacy Award committee meeting. It was decided this year to award an educator, linguist, and Lithuanian language textbook author - dr. Bronius Dobrovolskis.
This award recognizes dr. Dobrovolskis' life long dedication for Lithuanian language and education. The recipient of Petras Butenas Literacy award is an example to all the educators, the Teachers' teacher and one of the most respected and well known Lithuanian language didactic specialists who've spent his entire life fostering Lithuanian language.
With the Petras Butenas Literacy award, the Kazickas Family Foundation seeks to honor and preserve the memory of Petras Butenas' and his student Alexandra Kalvenaite Kazickas' work.
Petras Butenas was one of the most prominent Panevezys residents. During the years between the two world wars he researched Lithuanian language dialects, prepositions, place names, contributed preparing Lithuanian dictionary, wrote the accentuation text book. He was also Alexandra Kazickas' Lithuanian language and literature teacher at the Panevezys High School for Girls. In 2002 Alexandra Kazickas established the award in the honor of her dear teacher Petras Butenas. This award complemented all her other ideas and work in Lithuanian language field.
Panevezys region Gabriele Petkevicaite-Bite Public library wil host the award ceremony on June 13th at 3 pm.
