During her visit to Chicago, IL, on January 17th, Neila Baumiliene of KFF, met with Mrs. Rita Venclovas, program coordinator for Child's Gate to Learning.
"Child's Gate to Learning" is a volunteer based organization which supports 11 after school day centers, serving economically disadvantaged families in Lithuania since 1998.
In a two hour conversation, experiences were shared about best practices of two similar social responsibility programs: Child's Gate to Learning and the Basketball Power (sponsored by KFF).
Mrs. Venclovas offered to share five character building programs that she authored. The programs' themes were suggested by the supported centers‛ directors such as bullying, loss, suicide, etc.
Child's Gate to Learning sends High schoolers of Lithuanian Heritage living in the US to volunteer in its centers in Lithuania in the summer.
Mrs. Venclovas kindly asked for KFF's support for the Child's Gate to Learning organization.
