Starting new school year, Panevezys Vytautas Zemkalnis High School community and the Kazickas Family Foundation continue their partnership. Last year the Kazickas Family Foundation established student and teacher awards in memory of Alexandra Kalvenaite-Kazickas (1920-2011).
Last June school community hosted a Summer Picnic and presented the selected students with the awards. The contest will continue this year, inviting even more students to join.
Peter Kazickas and the family, as well as the Kazickas Family Foundation New York and Vilnius office teams visited the school in the beginning of new school year. The guests met with the contest committee, the Student Council, and with the entire school community. Based on the last year‘s experience, the contest guidelines were modified in order to encourage more students to apply.
Students‘ motivation, encouragement to challenge themselves, to bring new ideas and the future of the contest were discussed. School‘s students and teachers were excited to hear dr. Joseph and Alexandra Kazickas‘ grandchildren to share their personal experience doing what they are passionate about and the importance of giving back. They addressed the students putting emphasis on the „What Is Important to Me“ part of the contest. Peter shared more about his initiative SPROUT Coding and his brother talked about the solar energy, encouraging students to find their passion and just go for it.
The guests also visited school‘s computer room. After learning that school‘s younger students have robotics club, the Kazickas Family Foundation‘s representatives found an opportunity to find use for some robotics equipment that is currently not being used at another organization, sponsored by the Foundation. It will provide an opportunity to create robotics club for older school‘s students as well.
The Kazickas Family Foundation continues its partnership with Vytautas Zemkalnis High School with a goal to acknowledge active, progressive, creative and positive young leaders of the community.
