Two of dr. Joseph and Alexandra Kazickas' grandchildren visited children in Raguvele, Saukenai and Alsedziai, small Lithuanian towns, where "Youth Can" program's coaches work with boys and girls building their life skills through sports. They also stopped by in Kamajai, where children will be joining the program this fall.
While "Youth Can" program follows the same curriculum at all the locations, each town's students are unique. Alsedziai and Saukenai have strong girls' teams, while Raguvele has both, girls and boys together and Kamajai are still working on their group.
First stop - Raguvele. Raguvele Day Center is Jack Kazickas' philanthropy choice. $2,500 of KFF funds have been used this year to help center with its work. Guests participated in games and sports activities while celebrating the beginning of a new school year. Afterwards they discussed center's daily life, goals and challenges it faces.
Second stop - Saukenai. Here guests visited school "Youth Can" students attend. The local government officials: Vice-Mayor of Kelme, Elder of Saukenai and Head of Kelme Department of Education attended the meeting. The community is well aware of "Youth Can" program, recognizes its importance and wants to work together continuing to benefit Saukenai youth. Peter Kazickas and family had a conversation with school's students and "Youth Can" girls to better understand their needs. Program's girls facilitated and hosted the meeting, volunteered to interpret Peter’s and his brothers' presentations on their fields of interest, encouraging students to dream big and start volunteering.
Next stop - Alsedziai where school’s brass band welcomed the guests with a performance. The Kazickas brothers did short presentations for the students - Peter talked about SPROUT while his brother spoke about solar energy, encouraging young students to think outside the box when choosing their career path. Plunge municipality representatives and Head of Alsedziai community joined school administration, town's "Youth Can" team and the guests assuring their help with infrastructure and other needed support for the program. Everyone enjoyed a cake baked by the talented team captain.
Last stop - Kamajai, small village of 500 residents near Rokiskis where Alexandra Kazickas used to spend summers in her teen years. Kamajai students are joining "Youth Can" program this season, so KFF team paid a visit to meet with the community and school's teachers. Kamajai community members are excited to see "Youth Can" program coming to town and will work together with the program to make sure it benefits towns boys and girls.
