Literacy Award in Memory of Petras Butenas and his student Alexandra Kazickas

This year the Literacy Award in Memory of Petras Butenas and his student Alexandra Kazickas is presented to dr. KAZIMIERAS ROMUALDAS ZUPERKA, well known language stylistics specialist, Vilnius University Siauliai Academy professor emeritus, honorary member of the Lithuanian Language Association, longtime member of the "Baltic Center" association.
The award is presented for the lifetime contribution to the Lithuanian language research, developing Lithuanian language studies at schools, teacher and public language specialist trainings and public education.

The event to celebrate the recipient of the award will take place Sunday, June 20, 2021 at 2 pm at the St. Casimir church in Vilnius.
Petras Butenas was a linguist, an anthropologist, an interpreter and a teacher. He researched Lithuanian language dialects, prepositions, place names, contributed preparing Lithuanian dictionary, wrote the accentuation text book. He was also Alexandra Kazickas' Lithuanian language and literature teacher at the Panevezys High School for Girls. In 2002 Alexandra Kazickas established the award in the honor of her dear teacher Petras Butenas. Since 2018 with this award the Kazickas Family Foundation and the Lithuanian Language Associaton seek to preserve the memory of the linguist Petras Butenas (1896–1980) and his student Alexandra Kalvenaite-Kazickas (1920–2011).
