Literacy Award in Memory of Petras Butenas and his student Alexandra Kazickas

This year the Literacy Award in Memory of Petras Butenas and his student Alexandra Kazickas is presented to Prof Dr. habil Evalda Jakaitiene.
The laureate Prof Dr. habil Evalda Jakaitiene is the author of numerous scientific articles, textbooks and monographs on lexicology, lexicography and lexical semantics, a translator, a developer of the methodology of bilingual dictionaries, a nurturer of scientists, lecturers, translators and creative people.
Her research, teaching and popularisation of science is a great inspirational example for the young generation of Lithuanian studies.
The event to celebrate the recipient of the award will take place Sunday, June 18, 2023, after 11 am Mass at the St. John's church in Vilnius, Lithuania.
Petras Butenas and his student Alexandra Kalvenaite-Kazickas literacy award
Petras Butenas was a linguist, an anthropologist, an interpreter and a teacher. He researched Lithuanian language dialects, prepositions, place names, contributed preparing Lithuanian dictionary, wrote the accentuation text book. He was also Alexandra Kazickas' Lithuanian language and literature teacher at the Panevezys High School for Girls.
In 2002 Alexandra Kazickas established the award in the honor of her dear teacher Petras Butenas. Since 2018 with this award the Kazickas Family Foundation and the Lithuanian Language Association seek to preserve the memory of the linguist Petras Butenas (1896–1980) and his student Alexandra Kalvenaite-Kazickas (1920–2011).
