Last Friday, September 11, "Mamų Unija" president Egle Melinauskiene and her team cut the ribbon and officially opened the doors of the Family Home.
Charity foundation "Mamų unija" that provides help for children fighting cancer and their families, started working on this project four years ago. Families affected by pediatric cancers will find shelter here during the treatment. A day center and rehabilitation center providing various services for children with disabilities will open its doors in the building as well.
Family Home was built thanks to personal donations. Funds needed, $2,500,000, were donated by generous people of Lithuania, various businesses and foundations. "There are not enough words to express my gratitude I feel for everyone who contributed to help the ones affected by cancer they way they are usually helped in other countries, at the Family Home," shared E. Melinauskiene during the event.
The Kazickas Family Foundation also contributed to this project with $50,000. While visiting Lithuania, the Kazickas family members always visit the pediatric oncology ward at Santara hospital to learn what help they need and make the children smile with some small surprises.
KFF Vilnius office director Agne Vertelkaite and KFF project manager Ieva Sriebaliute congratulated E. Melinauskiene and her team during the ribbon cutting event and explored the brand new Family Home.
