People from different backgrounds, with different talents and experiences join together for one purpose - to help healthcare workers on the frontlines of the coronavirus battle. Marius Vilemaitis, an active Lithuanian diaspora in the US member, addressed his friends on Facebook, inviting all who have any idle 3D printer to join:
"My dear facebook friends located in US. If you have any idle 3D printer, please „join the party“ to print protective shields for medical and nursing home workers without leaving your home.
I‘ve joined a global makers community where tinkerers like us are printing PPE for their local community: medical institutions, nursery homes, supermarket front line staff, etc. Tristate area (NY, NJ, CT) is the most affected by the COVID19 area in the US and people in this area are in the most need of PPE. All shields we make will be donated. If we feel we need funding for more materials, we‘ll kick off the GoFundMe campaign.
Last several days I‘ve spent all nights printing such gear, experimenting and optimizing the production. The sample you see in the picture is the most durable model. At the same time, I‘ve found a couple of models, which are up to 2x faster to make and 2.5x less expensive. I also found suppliers of all needed materials as well as already ordered enough materials to cover the initial batch of prints.
The bottleneck of the whole production chain now is 3D printing. So every extra printer, every extra print counts now as never before. Now is the time when burning that plastic makes really a difference and most importantly - for good.
I should have the first batch of gear ready to ship tomorrow. But we are only scratching the surface as the impact of COVID-19 does. Please PM me if you can join with your 3D muscles and let‘s get this party started. I‘ll provide all the needed instructions."

Thank you, Marius, for your proactive and creative help during such uncertain times!
