On November 28th, the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre Support Foundation "the Lyre of Orpheus", supported by Kazickas Family Foundation, held its annual traditional Opera Ball. All received funds will be distributed to support young opera soloists, ballet dancers and musicians.
220 people attented this sold out event. The annual Opera Ball was atttended by many well known musicians, dancers, artists, business men, ambassadors and other diplomatic representatives. Evening's special guest of Honor was Maestro Virgilijus Noreika.
The charitable event was held at the recently restored "Vaidila" theater. Baroque style ballroom, decorated with flowers and candles, created a beautiful atmosphere for such event. Maestro Virgilijus Noreika's charming personality and singing was joined by every person in the room. Overwhelming feeling spread throughout the room when all 220 guests stood up to honor the Maestro.
Dancers and opera soloists, supported by foundation, performed and auction of four artworks donated by the artists and lottery were held during the Ball as well.
32,573 Euros were collected during the Opera Ball and that's the highest amount so far since Foundation started its work in 2003.
In the last 12 years The Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre Support Foundation collected and distributed over 500,000LT. 22 scholarships have been distributed to LNOBT opera students, 10 soloists received financial help with their internships, eight wind-instruments, chairs and choir's women's concert attire were purchased, publishing of a book about LNOBT conductor J. Aleksas and productions of well known operas, such as "Don Carlo", "Eugene Onegin", "Carmen", "Lithuanians", "Otello" and others were supported. Opera Foundation also gives away a prize during "Operos Švyturys" awards to the best supporting role and best new artist. This year during the GALA event prize was offered to a young and talented Opera and Ballet Theater's tenor Mindaugas Jankauskas.
