One hour and a half Memorial service for Dr. J.P. Kazickas was celebrated in PASVALYS (Lithuania) ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH on Sunday, July 12th at 11:30 a.m. The Mass was followed by Pažaislis Music Festival concert with Gabriel Faure - REQUIEM.
Father Albertas Kasperavicius spoke about Dr.Kazickas's legacy in Pasvalys, remembering his grandparents who were deported by Czar to Russia from Pasvalys for having participated in the appraisal of 1863. He spoke about Dr. Kazickas's comeback to Pasvalys in 1924, his life in the U.S., and his return again later on to his Fatherland after the Independence. The Father also spoke about Dr. Kazickas's son who perished in Nepal, about the Catholic church which Dr. Kazickas helped to build in Kathmandu and Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem, which he helped to renovate. Gintautas Geguzinskas, Mayor of Pasvalys, remembered Dr. Kazickas's attention to the Pasvalys School when having provided it with computers and scholarships. 60 members of Kaunas State Choir with Asta Krikščiūnaitė-soprano, Liudas Mikalauskas - bass, Beata Andriuškevičienė - organ, performed hymns during the Memorial mass and carried out an hour concert, finishing it with "Lietuva Brangi (Dear Lithuania)", most beloved Lithuanian song which served as the Lithuanian anthem during the years of Soviet occupation and "Lietuviais esame mes gimę (We are born Lithuanians)". Concert was sponsored by the KFF.
