Alexandra Kalvenas Kazickas, wife of Joseph Peter Kazickas, mother of five children, grandmother of 11, a woman of noble character and generous spirit, passed away on her 91st birthday, June 17, 2011. Please gather for the Holly Mass and the Concert honoring her life and memory on Sunday, June 17th at 12 pm at the Church of St. Casimir in Vilnius.
Born in Panevežys, her life journey brought her through refugee camps in Germany to America and then, joyful years of creating a family and doing good works. She never forgot her homeland and was so happy to see it regain its independence.
From the years 1943 to 2000, she kept a diary in which she wrote often. She knew how fortunate she was to be living a comfortable life and in her most personal writings, she never failed in her simple words to express her gratitude to God for her many blessings: first of all her devoted husband, who wrote her more than 100 letters during his travels, filled with love and longing; her daughter and four sons (Alex died in 1976), who have had successful and happy lives with their spouses; and then her grandchildren, who continue the Kazickas legacy of philanthropy through the Kazickas Family Foundation.
As she wrote in her diary – time and time again - more than 60 years ago:
“I have my home, my garden, my beloved corner, my dear children, and life continues smoothly. Truly, every time when I think deeply, I have no right to complain, whine or be unhappy. We are so fortunate, especially me, and I thank you, God, for that good fortune... Dear God, you are unbelievably good to me…I am very happy with my beloved husband and my wonderful children… Thank you, God, for the happiness!”
Let us all remember someone we loved who is no longer with us and be eternally grateful to God for the precious gift of life.

President of the Kazickas Family Foundation
