A display with photographs, letters and an excerpt of memoirs by Dr. Joseph P. Kazickas about his friend artist Vytautas Kasiulis (1918-1995) was opened in Vytautas Kasiulis Art Museum in Vilnius, Lithuania.
Kasiulis, who was hailed by art critics as one of the most interesting Paris school painters in the second half of the 20th century, was born in Lithuania and died in France, where he spent most of his life. Modern art museums in Paris and New York, art galleries and collectors in France, the US, Canada, the UK, Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland, Germany, Argentina, Australia, and Israel are proud to have paintings by Kasiulis.
Dr. J.P. Kazickas knew Vyt.Kasiulis since their teen years in Lithuania. Their friendship grew after they fled Lithuania during the WWII. While on his business trips from the US, Dr.J.P. Kazickas would often visit his friend and his family in Paris. For the beginning, Dr. Kazickas bought Kasiulis's artwork. Later, showing even more support, Kazickas bought an Art Gallery on Rue Royale Place de la Madelaine, in Paris for his friend. In return, Kasiulis offered Dr.J.P.Kazickas his paintings which, over the years, made up a valuable art collection now split among Dr.J.P.Kazickas and his four children families in their homes in the US, the Bahamas, and Lithuania. In the later years, Dr.J.P.Kazickas invited Vytautas Kasiulis to his homes in the US and the Bahamas to inspire the artist for even more artwork.
