On January 25th, when Vilnius celebrated its 698th birthday, ten individuals received the St. Christopher award for their contributions to the town. One of the recipients was a dear friend of the Kazickas Family Foundation, Renata Marcinkute Lesieur. The well known organ player was awarded for her humanitarian work to bring sacred music to broad and diverse audience in Lithuania.
Dr. Joseph and his wife Alexandra Kazickas truly cherished sacred music. They funded the rebuilding of the Oberlinger Organ in 2003 and helped professor Leopoldas Digrys bring the Summer Sacred Music Hours to the public at the St. Casimir church free of charge.
Today powerful organ music can still be heard on Sundays thanks to Renata Marcinkute-Lesieur who not just committed to continue this special tradition, but expanded it beyond the St. Casimir church. Last summer sacred music could be heard even in such small towns as Pumpenai, Pasvalys, Kamajai and others. Before the pandemic, hundreds of people would start gathering at the St. Casimir church early just to reserve the seat for the concert. Young and old, large families or just single sacred music admirers would sqeeze tight on the church pews, line up by the walls on the side or simply sit on the floor to enjoy such heavenly music.
Everyone at the Kazickas Family Foundation is extremely grateful for Renata's dedication to bring music that is also comfort, joy and peace to wide and diverse audience in Vilnius and beyond.
Vilnius mayor R. Simasius congratulated the recipients of St. Christopher award and shared his excitement that Vilnius is home to so many incredible, colorful and creative individuals. Due to the pandemic, the award ceremony is moved to summer 2021.
