The Kazickas Family Foundation congratulates Sisters of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary Congregation that is turning 100 this year and is excited to contribute to Sisters' work. Special friendship between Jurate Kazickas and Sister Igne Marijosiute started years ago at the camp in Putnam and continues even today.
On October 22nd Sisters were inviting everyone to Putnam, CT for celebration. Holly mass was held that was followed by the Dainava Men’s Octet performance led by Darius Polikaitis.
Sisters of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary Congregation was established October 15th, 1918 in Marijampole, Lithuania by Blessed Bishop Jurgis Matulaitis.
In 1936 first five Sisters from Marijampole came to the US. They were invited by the Marijonai Fathers at the Marianapolis Prep School in Thompson, CT. They worked there until God guided them to serve Lithuanian immigrants where they continue serve today providing religious education and taking care of elderly and sickly.
Service of the Sisters in the US varied througout the years. Sisters worked at the Toronto and Montreal Parishes. In America they started the printing-house "Immaculata" so that Lithuanians could have access to religious publications in their native language. For many years they kept publishing magazine for children "Eglute", organized "Immaculata" camp for girls which in 1969 was moved to Vermont and called "Neringa". Until 1972 at so called "Raudondvaris" they had a dorm for girls and for many years took care of elderly at the Vila Marija nursing home until they've build Blessed J. Matulaitis nursing home in 1968.
Currently there are 14 Sister living in North America. Two work at the Matulaitis Mission in Lemont, IL, five live at the Matulaitis home and seven at the Convent in Putnam, CT.
