During the days when everyone around the globe is facing the challenge to find a new „normal“ in their daily lives, doctors and nurses have emerged as the new soldiers, amid growing cases of coronavirus across the world. They put their lives at risk, work non-stop around the clock and ask us just a few simple things to help overcome this challenge together.
The Kazickas Family Foundation had an honor to contribute preparing a group of young progressive Lithuanian doctors for challenges they might face during the 6 week internship with Cincinnati Emergency Medicine experts.
A 3 year long 7 step program to expose 22 Lithuanian Physicians training in the specialty of Emergency Medicine about how to direct and manage Emergency Medicine Departments in community hospitals in Lithuania just ended last December. Back in 2017 program's initiator Dr. Herbert Loyd joined forces with Kaunas Clinics Emergency Medicine pioneers Kestutis Stasaitis and Nedas Jasinskas, as well as Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Clinics Advisor to Director, Pranas Serpytis, in order to provide Lithuanian Physicians with the most advanced knowledge and hands-on experience with the Emergency Medicine experts at the Cincinnati Hospital. The results are clear - Linas Darginavicius and Paulius Uksas had become heads of ED in Kaunas and Vinius, Vytautas Aukstakalnis is responsible for the residency in Kaunas, Martynas Gedminas coordinates quality and safety projects in Siauliai and all the rest became great ambassadors of Emergency Medicine specialty in Lithuania.
Today Emergency Medicine specialists, together with their colleague doctors, nurses and other medical staff are put to a brutal test to apply everything they’ve been trained for. We bow to their strength, thank them for their commitment and promise to do our part – to keep washing our hands, to socially distance ourselves and to be aware how we help our neighbors, our communities and everyone around the globe during this experience.
We will get through this together!
