Hoops 4 Hope (H4H) is an international non-profit that has been operating for the last 23 years in underserved communities throughout Zimbabwe and South Africa. Using sport as our platform, Hoops 4 Hope is dedicated to giving children and young adults the tools needed to face the many challenges of growing up in disadvantaged communities.
In 2011 Peter Kazickas volunteered with Hoops 4 Hope in Zimbabwe and ever since was hooked. He kept returning to Zimbabwe with new ideas how to contribute to the program and in 2018 launched a non-profit SPROUT Coding teaching computer coding, entrepreneurship and business development skills to young adults from high-density neighborhoods in Zimbabwe.
Peter Kazickas also applied the H4H model to start a similar successful program in Lithuania in 2015 called YOUTH CAN.
The Kazickas Family Foundation proudly has been supporting H4H since 2015 and last year gave $45,000 to help with its growth.
Mark Crandall, program's founder, gives the latest update in his letter of gratitude:
Dear Kazickas Family Foundation:
On behalf of these smiling boys and girls and the many, many others that come to our after-school programs, thank you for your extremely generous donations to Hoops 4 Hope! throughout 2018.
We have had a very busy year with all sorts of activities. I am happy to report that our Cholera Prevention Program was well-received in schools and communities and all of our participants remain free of the disease. We also now have our own well at the Center, a large capacity tank and solar heated hot water - yay!
This past week was World Aids Day and we gathered hundreds of our kids to play games relating to Aids Risk Awareness and fighting the stigma of AIDS. These "games" have proven to be very effective with educating and keeping our kids safe.
We are looking forward to a great year in 2019. Thank you so much for your support and for being part of the Hoops 4 Hope family.
We are most grateful,
Mark Crandall
