The Latest from SPROUT Coding

SPROUT Coding, an initiative started by Peter Kazickas together with his friend Eli Lubick in 2017, and supported by the Kazickas Family Foundation, is continuing to empower the next generation of learners in Zimbabwe creating a path for underprivileged students to establish careers in the world of technology, both within Zimbabwe and around the world.
During Peter's latest 5 month trip to Zimbabwe, SPROUT Coding started with a team of four and set out to redesign and rewrite the curriculum, which they did - and now have a 60 page curriculum book & instructor guide, which includes 30 projects, steps and teaching instructions.
Program was granted authority by the Ministry of Education to teach in all of the schools in the capital, at which point it was decided to grow the team. Starting in May, SPROUT Coding will have a team of 16 instructors teaching at 5-6 schools every day. These instructors all teach in the schools in the afternoon, and in the morning they are getting trained in advanced web development. In fact, the first website for a client was just launched - that was designed and built entirely by SPROUT: www.taylorsafrica.com.
Program also partnered with an orphanage/day center called the Dzikwa Trust and is working together to renovate a shipping container into a solar powered computer lab. It received funding from the Australian Embassy to do this and hopefully construction will be completed in May. This space would serve as a new office and classroom - where classes will be hosted and instructors trained before they go to the schools in the afternoon.
Peter also shared that one student was sent to boarding school in America at Marianapolis Prep - and he's doing great!
