KFF A. Kazickas Grant Program supports Lithuanian Heritage Schools in the US. Encouraged by additional matching grant up to 1,000 USD that motivates schools to organize fund-raising events in order to support their school work, Vincas Krėvė Lithuanian School in Philadelphia for the first time held Christmas Fair.
School Principal Irina Melikova was excited to share:
"This year was the first time that school family initiated Christmas Fair, because school is funded only by parents' donations. It was held during 3 December Sundays from 10am to 1pm at the St. Andrews parish hall. Everyone contributed. Parents and grandparents were making Christmas crackers, pies, brought in Christmas decorations, cards and ornaments. We even had supporters from the community. Lottery tickets were sold to everyone who wanted to win donated prizes. The most sold items were childrens' hand made ornaments, cards and other Christmas decorations. Donations and funds for items sold exceeded our 1,000 USD goal. Generous Kazickas Family Foundation promised to double our collected funds with their matching grant up to 1,000 USD. Those funds will cover the cost of two replaced windows, renovation of one classroom that we need for our weekly school activity.
Fair was initiated cautiously, but it was really exciting to see everyone contributing. Vincas Krėvė Lithuanian School says SINCERE THANK YOU to our supporters."
