"Youth Can" Day in Kaunas
11/18/2019

On the 30th of October, 260 “Youth Can” students, 20 coaches, 15 bus drivers, and 4 volunteers came to Kaunas with a goal to share the experiences, develop life skills during interesting activities, gain more valuable knowledge and have lots of fun together.

"Youth Can" students met at the RIO arena and were divided into teams according to their age. Each team was named after the NBA clubs and competed in different sports activities. During the games boys and girls were working on their communication skills, learning more about responsibility and building self-confidence.

Later on teams visited various organizations where they were introduced to different jobs and careers. Participants visited: Helisota, Devbridge, Hostinger, Police Department, Fire Department, KaunasIN (Kaunas City Municipality), Department of Oral Hygiene, Kaunas College Bioeconomy, Agronomy, and Engineering Faculties, VDU Agricultural Academy.

After the professional visits, teens and their coaches met at the Kaunas University of Technology where Doctor of Biomedical Sciences Brigita Zachovajeviene talked to the girls about sexual education, while Kaunas County Community Officer Dariaus Joneikis discussed smoking, drinking, drug use and other harmful habits with the boys. Younger participants were making the posters to support "Zalgiris" basketball team.

At the end of the day boys and girls had a chance to cheer on "Zalgiris" basketball team during the Eurolegue games at the RIO arena.

"Youth Can" is a program developed and executed by the Kazickas Family Foundation. During free weekly sport practices, discussions, meetings and educational trips children develop necessary life skills. Program promotes active, productive and healthy lifestyle in country’s remote regions. Currently it reaches over 300 children in 16 villages and small towns of Lithuania.
