"Youth Can" Program Replaces and Expands "Basketball Power"
09/24/2018

After three successful seasons, „Basketball Power“ program is starting its fourth one under a new name – „Youth Can“. Main difference between two programs is a number of sports activities offered.

„Youth Can“ will continue to inspire and motivate Lithuania‘s youth from small towns and villages, as well as teach them important life skills using sports. However, in addition to beloved basketball, this season ultimate frisbee, soccer and volleyball will be offered with hopes that more children will join and enjoy. New program will focus on interaction and communication with boys and girls. It will use sports to engage them during the second part of the practice into conversations carefully selected by the specialists. Well known and respected role models and accomplished professionals will share their experiences with the youth. First topic – social media and safe ways to use it.

Program seeks not just to offer children to play sports, to motivate them and teach important life skills, but to contribute to solution of such sensitive subjects in Lithuania, as human trafficking, bullying, suicide and so.

„Youth Can“ will go to at least 17 locations all over Lithuania this season, where selected active, charming and respected coaches who also become role models for boys and girls will invite them for practice. Each team will select an active team member who demonstrates leadership skills. The selected boy or girl will become coach‘s right hand and will have an opportunity to learn coaching and other skills necessary to lead a team which will help to build his or her confidence.

Children will have a chance to participate at at least four big events during the season where they will compete and show off their skills learned during the two month practice. Events will also offer many other fun activities, meetings with well known and accomplished people, opportunities to visit Lithuanian cities. First such event – season opening – will take place October 27th in Kedainiai sports arena where kids will compete in the first sports discipline on the list – basketball.

„Youth Can“ is a program promoting productive after school life in small towns and villages of Lithuania, encouraging children not to be afraid of their own dreams and providing them with an opportunity to explore Lithuania, to meet interesting role models and make friends all around the country. It‘s a program that will prove to everyone in Lithuania that Youth Can!
