Year 2020 surprised us all with a complicated obstacle course. However, "Youth Can" team continues navigating through this course in a creative way! New challenges lead to new ideas, different approaches, solutions and remind us to never give up. According to an old proverb, "when life gives lemons, make lemonade," so "Youth Can" team has been using this opportunity to accomplish new goals with tools provided.
"Youth Can" manager Arminas Vareika, together with program coordinators Aiste Baronaite-Bertasiene and Benas Maciulaitis, brings interesting, attractive and motivating virtual activities to their students.
Program's mission to provide youth with life skills training continues virtually. Aiste's creative ways of finding the experts of different fields and inviting them to share their experiences with the students has been a huge success. Boys and girls already had an opportunity to learn what it takes to become a radio show host, psychologist, board game designer or app builder. Such proffesionals shared what it takes to make it in that specific field and answered all the participants' questions. Other guests focused on encouraging children to reach for their dreams and make careers out of them, whether it is a professional traveler, auto rally racer or dance studio owner. Few more experts from the medical and social media fields shared valuable advise on topics that interests every teen. Safe virtual environment helped students to open up and ask important questions.
While Aiste is focused on the life skills part of the program, Benas works on the second part of "Youth Can" mission, to promote an active and healthy lifestyle. Children are invited to learn new beneficial yoga exercises, to run a trail spelling out the name of their towns using a specific app and even to participate in a virtual marathon.
"Youth Can" coaches are also invited to the educational meetings with the specialists, where they share their best practices on ways to motivate teens to stay active and involved, keep in touch with their students during the lockdown and seek to provide a stable foundation in an extremely unstable situation.
